Marinara Sauce

Picture
Serves: 3 1/2 Cups
Prep Time: 10 min. Cook Time: 25 min.
Marinara is quite possibly the easiest Italian sauce to make, and the hardest to master.  Avoid making tweaks to the recipe the first time out.  You may find that you don't need it.  This sauce can instantly become a staple in your home.  Store extras in an air tight container so it's on hand when you need it.
Ingredients
  • 1 Can (28 oz.) Cento Crushed Tomatoes - Preferably San Marzano Tomatoes
  • 1/4 Cup Olive Oil
  • 1 Tbsp. Tomato Paste
  • Pinch Crushed Red Pepper
  • 7 Garlic Cloves - minced
  • 1 1/2 Tsp. Kosher Salt
  • 1 Tsp. Dried Oregano
  • 2 Fresh Basil Sprigs
  • 2 Tsp. Sugar
Directions
  1. In a warm Dutch Oven, heat Olive Oil.
  2. Add Garlic to hot oil, cooking until fragrant, do not let the garlic brown! If the garlic browns your sauce will be bitter and taste awful. Add tomato paste and stir to combine.
  3. Add tomatoes, red pepper, oregano, and kosher salt and stir.
  4. Place basil on top of sauce, do not stir in. Simmer for 25 minutes.
  5. Turn off heat, and add sugar.
  6. Taste. Add salt and/or oregano to your preference.
  7. Serve immediately, reserving an extra in an airtight container in your refrigerator.
