Deep Dish Pizza

Serves: 2-4
Prep Time: 4 Hrs. Cook Time: 30 min.
Till the day my breath expires I will always pick New York Style pizza over anything else.  Followed by my hometown, Columbus style 'cracker' crust pizza.  But every now and again, I need a deep dish pizza.  And it's not always easy to pick up and visit Chicago or find a good copy where I am.  So I decided to set out on making my own.  Check out my deep dish pizza recipe to see just how great it all comes together.
Ingredients
  • 1 Deep Dish Dough Ball (Recipe Here)
  • 1 to 2 Cups Marina Sauce (Recipe Here)
  • 10 slices Provolone Cheese
  • 3 Cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese (It's better if your grate your own.)
  • 10 oz. Sliced Pepperoni
  • 1 Lb. Sweet Italian Sausage cooked and crumbled
  • 1 Cup Fresh Mushrooms - sliced
  • 10 leaves of Fresh Basil - rolled and sliced thin
  • 1 Tbsp. Dried Oregano
  • Optional - 1/4 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 425°F
  2. Roll dough out and gently place into 9 inch springform pan. (I recommend lightly greasing pan with olive oil before placing dough.
  3. Trim excess dough that over hangs. 
  4. Being sure to cover entire surface, lay out provolone cheese, covering with mozzarella cheese.
  5. Layer in pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms (or your favorite pizza toppings).
  6. Sprinkle basil and oregano and cover with marinara leaving a visible top edge of crust.
  7. Back in oven for 30 minutes, covering loosely with aluminum foil after 15 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven, pop the ring on your pan, slice and serve.

Sulli Says: The bread flour is my trick, it gives the bottom a nice crisp texture you wouldn’t otherwise get. That’s important because I like to drizzle warm honey on a plate and place the biscuits on top and serve.
